Welcome to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Machakos University !
The School occupies prestigious niche as the center of excellence for scholarship and research in humanities and social sciences. It is rooted in the University ’s mission of providing high level manpower through quality training, research, consultancy and community service. Currently, the School is serviced by academic staff comprising 50 full-time and 30 part-time lecturers. Their ranks range from professors, senior lecturers, lecturers, to tutorial fellows. Our academic staffs are highly accomplished in scholarship; over 80 per cent hold doctoral degrees from local and overseas universities. They have published widely and are continuously engaged in reputable national, regional, and international scholarly assignments. Our goal in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences is to prepare learners for life and service as responsible citizens. Above all, we aim at broadening learners’ competences through critical and analytical thinking. Needless to say, we are living in a fast changing technological world. If we must survive, and for sure we should, we must keep abreast with emerging challenges. At the same time, employers are looking for graduates who are versatile, team-players, ethical, and resourceful problem-solvers; graduates who possess extraordinary sensitivity to address the diverse needs in varied situations. Towards this end, the School inculcates requisite problem-solving skills to prepare learners for brighter and successful future. The School offers varied, competitive and demand-driven academic programmes that provide cutting edge knowledge, skills and competences. They range from diplomas, bachelors, post-graduate diplomas, masters, and Ph.D. degree programmes. There are also short-courses and specialized academic programmes. Each year the School, through the Kenya Universities and s Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) admits nearly 800 government-sponsored students to its regular programmes and about 500 students to its self-sponsored programmes. Our graduates find opportunities in government and its associated agencies, non-governmental organizations, community- and faith-based organizations, private sector, international organizations, and self-employment. A number of on-going students and alumni venture into national and international responsibilities. Our students get opportunities to participate in various cultural and academic exchange programmes and many have benefited from various prestigious scholarships from the government, embassies, charitable organizations, research organizations, and well wishers. The cultural and academic exchange programmes and scholarships ensure that we develop a strong pool of academic resource that can initiate the human side of re-engineering the future. We welcome synergies of people like you, so as to make the School stronger and relevant in resolving the challenges of the 21st century.
