Message from the DVC

As the Academic & Student Affairs Division, we welcome the elevation Machakos University College into Machakos University. Since September 2001 when Machakos Technical Training College was upgraded to Machakos University through Legal Notice No. 130, on 16th September, 2011, we have worked closely with Kenyatta University in putting mechanisms in place to offer competitive degree programmes, participate in research and innovation activities and establish mutually beneficial linkages with universities and industries.
Machakos University has a strong background in not only technical and science-based programmes but also in the humanities and social sciences. This places the University in a vantage position to continue training personnel in diverse fields such as Civil Engineering, Electrical Electronics Engineering, Fashion Design and Marketing, Hospitality, Business, Education, Agribusiness and Applied Sciences. The University has some of the best equipped Engineering workshops in the country. In addition, the University is the proud owner of a state-of-the-art hospitality training facility (the Le-Technistch Hotel) which also serves as a conference facility.
Due to these unique competitive advantages, the university enrollment has increased from 2,500 when the College was upgraded into a University College to the current population of 6,260 Students. As an ISO 9001:2008 Certified Institution, Machakos University strives to maintain this position in line with her Quality Statement, Mission and Vision. Consequently, the university has mounted 81 programmes ranging from Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor’s to Doctoral studies which are aligned to market demand, global trends in technology and environmental issues. The programmes are designed to meet the development needs of the country and beyond, sustain production of quality research, and to disseminate knowledge and skills for the advancement of humanity at large.
The university is making tremendous progress in Research & Innovation, Linkages and Community Service. As a result, we have been able to fully place students in topnotch industries for industrial attachment and internship activities. Further, Machakos University has entered into collaboration agreements with a number of organizations. Among these are; Samsung Kenya, Mitsumi Computers Ltd, Car & General, Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA), Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) and the Strathmore Energy research Centre.
Driven by Academic and Student Affairs,Machakos University is committed to nurturing scholars who are firmly grounded in their professions and are able to assert themselves in the job market with proficiency, ethics and integrity.
